Windows 7 XP Mode for Home Versions ([Only registered and activated users can see links])
The owners of Windows 7 Home Premium look 7 Professional, Enterprise, and ultimate somewhat envious to those of Windows, because Microsoft has donated them the "Windows XP mode". It allows to install 7 not executable program in a virtual Windows XP Windows and subsequently Windows 7 from normal to use the programs.
This envy is totally inappropriate, because you can use Home Basic or premium this functionality as well as users of Windows 7.
The only thing you need is a valid license for Windows XP Professional.
First download Windows Virtual PC and install it:
KB958559 - Windows Virtual PC ([Only registered and activated users can see links])
Now start Windows Virtual PC and create a new virtual machine - the defaults are fine, you click through.
Insert the Windows XP installation CD into your computer's drive and start the virtual machine.
It starts from the CD inserted and it launches the XP Setup as usual.
Normally perform the installation of XP - only where you have to watch:
Specify a user with the same name and password as your "real" System.
If your XP CD has not yet integrated Service Pack 3, you must have Windows update run after the first start of the virtual XP and install it.
When that's done, click above on "Tools" and then click "install integration features" in Windows Virtual PC.
When this action is complete, prompted whether you want to download the updates for the integration features.
You must confirm that necessarily (if a request to restart appears at the same time, ignore them) - then you will be redirected to the download page of updates KB961742. Should this fail or should you be shipping clicks don't panic, you then manually this page access:
Download details: Update for Windows ® XP SP3 to enable RemoteApp? ([Only registered and activated users can see links])
After installation, you must restart the virtual machine.
After the click again above on "Tools" and then click "enable integration features".
That's it!
Try it out, install an application in the virtual XP.
After installation is complete, you will notice that you can call the installed program from Windows 7 start menu:
